Nexstar Media Group, Inc. seeks an experienced television professional to serve as Vice President & General Manager of WLNS-TV and oversight of WLAJ-TV (through a local services agreement with Shield Media, Inc) and all affiliated digital, mobile and social assts associated with wlns.com.
WLNS-TV serves the Lansing DMA (ranked #110) and covers 5 counties. The city of Lansing, situated on the banks of Michigan's Grand River, is the capital city of the state. Located about 90 miles west of Detroit, and 90 miles east of Grand Rapids and Lake Michigan.
Lansing is the home of Michigan State University. The Michigan State Spartans participate in the Big Ten Conference. Michigan State is well known as a Big Ten staple and has captured many national titles in both football and basketball.
Lansing is also home to various museums, gardens, libraries and river walks. It is a great family friendly location that offers seasonal outdoor activities including hiking, golf, and water sports. Winter skiing is within 2 hours. The Lansing Metropolitan Area, referred to as "Mid-Michigan", is an important center for educational, cultural, governmental, commercial, and industrial functions.
Ideal candidates will be professional driven advocates of local broadcasting with proven success in leading revenue and ratings/digital metrics. This job will require a person with creative vision that can execute big events, out- of-the- box revenue ideas and an understanding of how to be hyper-local and a community leader. Applicants should have strong leadership skills and be effective in collaborating with department heads and promoting teamwork within all areas of the stations operations. They should have demonstrated success in leading sales-driven organizations and developing revenue streams across multiple media platforms. An ability to engage local community leaders and develop long-term relationships with key station clients will round out the best candidates.
