WTVY, Dothan's #1 rated news station is looking for a News Anchor for their evening newscasts.. WTVY covers Southeast Alabama, Northwest Florida, and Southwest Georgia with an emphasis on local news, sports and weather. Our primary DMA is Southeast Alabama. WTVY (CBS) is the established market leader in Dothan. We also have WRGX (NBC) GTVY (WTVY4.2 MeTV MyNet) and ETVY(WTVY4.3 CW). We are less than 2 hours from Panama City Beach and Destin on the Gulf Coast. NO PHONE CALLS.
WTVY has an immediate opening for an experienced News Anchor for our Monday-Friday 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm newscasts. This position also requires the candidate to generate features and franchise stories as requested. The candidate must be willing to serve as a fill-in anchor on other shows, as needed. We are looking for a team player and newsroom leader. This candidate must be comfortable and connected with all broadcast journalism platforms including television, social and digital media.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Must be a team leader with a great attitude, a strong ethics and integrity
Strong writer, knowledgeable about current events, who can think critically
Energetic personality who can connect on TV, online and in the community.
Must be enterprising, able to pitch and do great stories, live as well as from the desk
Strong news judgment; understands how to research complicated stories and be able to use editorial judgment to determine the content and quality of newscasts
Go-to reporter/field anchor when major breaking news happens (hurricanes, etc.)
Reports and produces a monthly franchise story
Will assist producers and the digital team in the writing of news stories, consistent with station format and style.
Must be proficient in the use of social media to communicate news and promotional messages, demonstrating strong multi-platforms skills on our News App, Website, and social media platforms.
Acts as a supervising producer during the late newscasts
Be a mentor for reporters, junior anchors, and producers.
Proficient in ENPS or another newsroom system,
Must be able to communicate in a calm and positive style
Other duties as assigned
Anchor live television broadcasts at 5, 6 and 10:00 pm M-F and fill-in on other shows as needed
Willingness to work weekends, holidays and shifts outside normal business hours
Ability to connect and engage with the audience and deliver the news in a compelling, exciting and accurate manner
Engage in community related activities and event on the stations behalf to promote stations relationships within the community.
Enterprise and pitch compelling and important news stories on a daily basis
Write effectively for television and on our social media and digital platforms
Possess great live reporting skills both in studio and in the field for general assignment stories and on breaking news
Reads/copy edits news scripts before each show
Write and post daily news stories on the stationís digital and social media platforms
Must be able to generate features and franchise stories as required
Ability to communicate effectively with newsroom managers, producers and co-workers
Must be an excellent writer
Knowledge of journalism ethics and legal issues
Ability to meet daily news deadlines
Strong organizational skills and possess the ability to multi-task and work under pressure
Professional appearance a must
Ability to shoot and edit news stories
(3) Three years anchoring/reporting experience preferred
College degree in broadcasting, journalism or communications-related field.
Must possess a valid Driverís License with a good driving record
Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
